Facilities 

This 4000 square foot research centre houses three labs, each with a specific production focus, including an interactive studio for engagement with sound, projection, virtual reality (VR), and video, and a collaborative space for workshops, intergenerational gatherings, dialogues, and work.

Aabijijiwan New Media Lab houses:

  • A technology-based production workspace, including four work screens for platforms including photoshop, animation, VR, digital storyboarding.

  • A makerspace with two workstations for people in residence, RAs, or guest faculty. This space is for sewing, small workshops, beading, and creating with materials such as fabric and hide, but also with integration with digital drawing, storyboarding, and painting.

  • Resources for children such as STEM Tinker devices as well as comfortables spaces with bean bag chairs to play.

  • A print production space with ventilation for printing, imaging, and fabrication. There are workstations for two 3D printers, a laser cutter, a plotter, and a 3D scanner.

  • An interactive studio that is a soundproof and coded interactive working space for VR creation and testing, 360-video and sound production, green screen filming and telecommunications for working with communities outside of Winnipeg.

  • Portable video documentation kit and other equipment for off site projects.


The Kishaadigeh Collaborative Research Centre houses:

  • Individual workspaces for tablets and laptops.

  • A family space for babies, mothers, and children.

  • A space for hosting workshops, events and intergenerational gatherings. The space contains interchangeable tables and chairs to facilitate small and large groups and infrastructure to project on walls, tables, and the floor.
